Router Admin

I received a new HG333 router along with a YouView box yesterday.
I could access the admin menu at 168.192.1.1 yesterday but after it was restarted overnight I now receive the message
Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.1
It is still working as a DHCP Server and Gateway on this address but I cannot ping it either.
I have tried from 2 different computers
Can I just reset the router or will this loose the TalkTalk settings?

Re: Router Admin

Hi peaknaze.

Thanks for your post

Have you tried a different browser? if its the same a reset will be fine, you may need to reset the wireless SSID name and password after though.

Thanks

Re: Router Admin

Thank you for the reply
I have reset the router
However it now disconnects regularly every 70 minutes.
Is there any explanation for this?

You could check the connection trigger settings

Open browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, then press enter
Type "admin" for the username and password and press OK
Click on advanced in the left hand side menu
Click on OK to the advance user warning
Click on "Basic" in the left hand side menu then WAN
In the main window go down to "Connection Trigger" and select "Always On" from the drop down menu
Click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen to save settings.

Re: Router Admin

Mark
Yes I changed the Connection Trigger settings this morning and it still resets every 70 - 80 mins even when connected directly to the BT Test Socket with no other phone wiring connected to the circuit.

Now the speed is dropping everytime it resets, currently 3500Mb, previously was 4000:smileysad:

Any advice appreciated

Re: Router Admin

Hi peaknaze,

I am sorry to hear that the connection is unstable. I have completed a line test which has not detected a fault.

Please can you complete the below broadband sticky questions as this will help us to investigate,

What make/model router are you using?
Have you tested with a different router, if so what is the make/model?
Have you tested a different micro filter?
Do you have an NTe5 BT Master Socket?
If yes, did you notice any improvement in your speed when in the test socket?
If no, is your modem connected to the master socket?
How many telephone extension sockets do you have?
Are you using any extension cables, alarm systems or sky boxes?
Do you have any issues with your phone service?
Apart from the stability of your broadband, do you have any other issues?

Re: Router Admin

Thank you for checking it, it has become more unstable recently

What make/model router are you using? HG533 as recently supplied
Have you tested with a different router, if so what is the make/model?No
Have you tested a different micro filter? Yes
Do you have an NTe5 BT Master Socket? Yes
If yes, did you notice any improvement in your speed when in the test socket? Yes but still cuts out
If no, is your modem connected to the master socket?
How many telephone extension sockets do you have? 1
Are you using any extension cables, alarm systems or sky boxes? No
Do you have any issues with your phone service? No
Apart from the stability of your broadband, do you have any other issues? No

I do have an old TrendNet router which I used before TalkTalk supplied the HG533 router last week, this was slower but stable.
Do you want me to check with this?

Re: Router Admin

Checked over the weekend and the router still regularly disconnects every 70 mins.
This makes watching TalkTalk catch up TV or radio streaming very annoying.
Any suggestions from TalkTalk on what I might do to cure it.
Thank you

Re: Router Admin

are you connecting wired for testing?

wireless connections can have a whole host of issues, do all lights on router stay 'green'?

Re: Router Admin

Hi Peaknaze,

As Fred has requested can you confirm that you are using wired connections to the router?

If you can also test with an altenrative router, as indicated from your post above you do have another router you can test and this will allow us to rule out equipment related factors.

Re: Router Admin

I have been using both a wired and wireless connection to the router. No difference noticed when just wireless, problem is at the router not the connections to it.
I cannot use the router without the wireless connection for other devices eg ipod /internet radio.
Still had regular dropouts over the weekend and Monday

Since last night I have been using an alternative router plugged into the master socket and although the speed is lower than with the HG533 the connection still regularly drops out. Last continuous connection period was 78 mins.

I plan to swap back to the HG533 and monitor on the test socket with a wireless connection. I will also need to plug the Phone into the test socket via the phone socket on the filter and try and monitor for today.

What else do you suggest?

Re: Router Admin

Connected to the test socket as below with the internal wiring disconnected, speed 5700 kbps but disconnected twice after 70 mins:smileymad:

Now connected through the normal socket on the NTe5 faceplate with no internal wiring connected but speed has dropped to 3900kbps :smileymad:

I can live with the speed but any other suggestions on why I should be getting these disconnects?

Re: Router Admin

Hi peaknaze,

I have changed your profile to a more stable one, please let us know if there is any improvement

Downstream Rate 3808 kb/s
Upstream Rate 535 kb/s
Downstream SNR 15 dB

Its strange that the disconnections are occuring at such a regular interval, do you have any electrical devices that work on a timer?

Do the lights change on the router when the connection drops?

Is the router situated close to other electrical devices that could be causing interference?

Do you have to do anything to get the router to reconnect (such as reboot it)?

Currently 4 hrs and counting!
I shall see how it goes overnight

No

I do not know as the router is not immeadiately visible
Is the router situated close to other electrical devices that could be causing interference?
Only the phone is plugged into the same filter but not the same electric socket
Do you have to do anything to get the router to reconnect (such as reboot it)?
No it reconnects within a minute

Re: Router Admin

The router reset the ADSL line during Wednesday night and since then has started to disconnect every 70 mins again.

Is this part of the initial line stabilization process?

If so I will leave as is for the next week.

Re: Router Admin

Hi peaknaze,

The connection still looks really unstable at the moment. Please can you confirm that the connection is still unstable with 2 different routers, microfilters and adsl cables directly at the test socket and we will raise the intermittent connection over to the Network Team for investigation.

Re: Router Admin

As requested
Tues 23rd Apr 18:00 Connecteted HG533 with different filter and lead to test socket - Good speed but disconnected from ADSL every 69 mins

Connected Trendnet modem. Initially disconnected from ADSL every 65 -70 mins, partially stable overnight, but much lower speed
Disconnected from ADSL Wed 24th at 7:55 after 5 hrs then restarted disconnecting every 65 -70 mins.

20:45 Reconnected HG533 modem as it gives better speed.

Disconnection problem appears to be independent of equipment connected.

Leaving HG533 connected until you advise!
