Hi @DarrenW66

Which VPNBook SSL servers were you using, I haven't found any supporting SSL. What I did do was to analyse a connection attempt of my own that gets to about 48% using a VPNGate SSL server in Wireshark. The Forticlient contacts the server and performs some encrypted exchange. Are you sure that you don't need to use any certificates? Did this ever work to your employer's VPN server?

Hi again Keith, thank you for persevering with this.

Generally it gets to 40% before failing.

Interestingly, if I run the open vpn (vpnbook) on my machine and then connect to Fortinet, it seems to connect much better.

I don't know if that helps explain the problem here?

Thank you again,

Hi @DarrenW66

I have been trying all of the free SSL VPN servers that I can find & can't connect to any of them. When you try & connect to your work network, what percentage does the connection reach before it fails?

Please can you send me a PM (to protect your Privacy) with a screenshot of how you have it configured, so as I can test this in the same way that you are using it?

Hi @DarrenW66

I have tested that router for any free VPNs that I could find at the time, but did not know that there was a free version of that one. I think that you forgot the link.

My apologies Keith.  It is SAGECOM FAST 5364-3.T8

Here's the link to the Forticlient download page.  I'm using the free version headed 'Forticlient VPN' at the bottom of the download options, Windows version.

Thank you again, so much, for any help you can offer.

Hi @DarrenW66

The TalkTalk WiFi hub is not much use I am afraid description e pull up plastic panel, there is a sticker behind that which will tell you. It is probably one of these:-

  • Sagemcom FAST 5364
  • Sagemcom FAST 5464
  • Huawei DG8041W

Do you have a link you could give me to the VPN client's support site, as those protocols are ones that applications use, rather then the one that the VPN client uses to connect to its server.

Hi Keith, thank you for trying to help me with this.

I'm using the TalkTalk wifi hub.  And I think this Fortinet vpn is using either TLS1.3 or SMBv2.  I looked those up on their website as i don't know how to find this information out otherwise.  Sorry.  Grateful for any help you can give me, though.  Thank you

Hi DarrenW66,

In addition to answering Keith's questions can you please update your community profile to include your:

  • Name
  • Telephone number
  • Alternative contact number

We'll then look into this further. Please do not post this information on this thread. Once you've updated your profile please post in your topic to confirm it's updated.

Thanks

Chris

Which make/model of router do you have?

Do you know which VPN protocol this VPN client uses:-

  1. PPTP
  2. L2TP-IPSec
  3. SSTP
  4. IKeV2
